Though I grew up surrounded by boreal forest and icy blue northern lakes and rivers, I have fallen in love with the changing light and colours of the prairies. Since I met my husband almost thirty years ago, a favorite activity has been to go for a drive in the country, to watch the sun rise or set, to see the patterns of the clouds and the fields as they grow, a changing palette of yellow and purple and green.
Fortunately I live in the perfect place, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains surrounded by prairies to the east and forests and lakes to the west. I am grateful for the landscape in this vast country, how it differs from one area to another, and revel in the changing seasons. And I am thankful that I get to experience the beauty that is Canada.
