Introducing...
October 4th to October 18th Opening Reception: Saturday October 4th, 1pm to 4pm With almost 50 artists, it’s hard to find time and space to show everyone’s work and for The Daffodil Gallery's newer artists, it can be even more challenging to have work displayed long enough for regular gallery visitors to get to know their work. We’re taking two weeks out of our show schedule to introduce several of our new artists. While they may be new to you and the gallery, most have been painting and creating art for many, many years! Some of the work we’ll include will be the pictographic sacred vessels and spaces series of paintings by Veronica Funk; Katerina Mertikas’ energetic and playful acrylics; contemporary abstracts by Blu Smith; as well as the bold brushstrokes and simple beauty of Tara Higgins’ evergreen trees. With more artists planning to join us over the summer, this show is – like our gallery, ever evolving. Check back here for updates. The Daffodil Gallery: 10412 124th Street, Edmonton, AB, T5N 1R5 Tuesday through Saturday: 10.30am to 5pm. Thursdays: 10:30am to 7pm.Additional hours are available by appointment. Call 780-760-1278 or email info@daffodilgallery to make an appointment.

For many years I have gathered inspiring quotes but my favorite is the following: If you are wise, you will show yourself rather as a reservoir than as a canal. A canal spreads abroad water as it receives it, but a reservoir waits until it is filled before overflowing, and thus without loss to itself shares its super abundant water. ~ Bernard of Clairvaux During ARTember in Airdrie the library hosted our first adult art workshop which I was excited to teach. I'm always amazed how each person brings their own original style to their work even though our goal is all similar. One thing I learned years ago is that, like our personal signature or fingerprints, our artwork is unique. I wish we could stop being so hard on ourselves (yes I am guilty of this, too), our appearance, our personalities, our form of creativity and just allow ourselves to play without judgement. I am a believer that there is beauty in imperfection...and what is perfection in any case? And that is the beauty of creativity.
Next month we'll be sharing the skills and talents of western artist Gary Giesbrecht who will be sharing a simple horse drawing technique. I always learn something new whenever we have a different artist leading the workshops...it's interesting that though each of us may draw or paint, we all have our own way of doing things. And I love seeing the spark in someone's eyes when something is presented in a new way, in a way that makes sense to them. |
