Several years ago I began creating paintings once a week which I called the 52 WEEKS project. My goal was to stretch my creative muscles, and to push myself as an artist.
Because I hadn't painted many animals in my career, the first year I focused on Canada's wild animals and the stories behind them created in mixed media on 7x14 inch canvas. This was followed by a year of gratitude from Aa to Zz in my sketchbook and then 8x10 inch wildflowers on canvas as I have always been inspired by their beauty and medicinal properties.
The following year my focus was on my heroes, those women who have inspired and encouraged me on my own journey. My goal was to return to the study of portraiture as it was through this subject that I was originally accepted into art school. And then, to challenge myself further and to share my love of literature, my focus became the 52 best lines ever written. I chose to illustrate these sentences using an approach that was inspired by graphic design.
