What an incredible month! It was wonderful to work alongside Ana, to lead workshops, to connect with so many inspiring Alberta artists and to share our work. I will miss Sparrow Artspace and Sandra Neill...though I have a feeling that this isn't the end. Thank you so much to everyone for popping by, for your support and for the encouragement!
For my 100 Day Project this year, I enjoyed painting 100 miniature portraits of female artists from history which filled two mint tins that I picked up while I was in San Francisco. While I was in the city in February, my hotel was located right beside the Keane Eyes Gallery that was created by artist Margaret Keane and which is apparently still run by her family. I wanted to end the project with her as she was a woman whose husband had taken credit for her work (not the first woman artist to experience that) and it was so great to be able to see her work in person after seeing the Tim Burton movie titled 'Big Eyes' about her experience many years ago. I also found it very interesting to learn that she only passed away a year ago at the age of 94. What an inspiring woman! I've been grateful to be able to share them as part of my Artist Residency/Exhibit at Sparrow Artspace in Calgary.
What an incredible experience we had during our Artist's Residency at Sparrow Artspace. Creativity, community & collaboration really are embodied in the space and the residents of Bridgeland in Calgary definitely supports and encourages the artists involved. I cannot believe what I accomplished this month:
