I'm looking forward to an evening of painting, wine and cheese alongside artist Karen Pedersen at the Evanescence Gallery in High River. Each month, the gallery hosts 'First Friday' from 7-9 pm which is a fun evening to meet and greet artists as well as enjoy a lovely evening out. The gallery is a beautiful gem full of diverse artistic talents which features a variety of fine art and craft and is one of my favorite places to pick up beautiful handmade gifts as well as quality art supplies. The photo above was taken six years ago during one of their openings...as you can see, I had a great time. There's nothing like spending an evening painting, snacking and chatting with wonderful people.
I'm finally wiring last year's 52 WEEKS::Heroes series though with my shoulder it is very slow going. It's been interesting to see the change in how I do things with this seemingly minor limitation, which is probably why I have been avoiding this particular task. Thank goodness for a compression shirt and sleeve along with a shoulder brace...I never thought my art tools would extend to my wardrobe. I'm getting excited and nervous for the unveiling of this series in May and grateful for an amazing partnership with my friend Sherry and AirdrieLIFE magazine so that it can take place in this way. Honouring women. This has always been the nearest and dearest to my heart.
I am so honoured to have my 52 WEEKS::Heroes series as part of this year's AirdrieLIFE Amazing Airdrie Women awards. Meeting the incredible nominees was such a privilege and I can't wait for the luncheon in May. As always, publisher Sherry Shaw-Froggatt fulfilled her incredible vision and I am beyond grateful to have been able to contribute in a small way. Being involved in this project has touched me so deeply and is definitely a career highlight for me as an artist. You can read about the amazing nominees as well as vote for them here, read about the inspiration behind this issue here, and learn a bit about the women behind the scenes here.
