I've been working on a commission of 4 - 12x12 inch interior paintings for corporate gifts. It's been awhile since I painted chairs but this was so much fun, beginning each with a drawing using paint, water and canvas. I used to love working like this, basically sketching out my image roughly along with the shadows, leaving the whites for highlights, kind of like watercolours. It has always been interesting to see the cartoon or graphic style of the images prior to adding colour which rounds out the forms. Throughout the years I have painted so many bits of furniture (especially chairs) that I do these out of my head...the wingback chairs were the first pieces of new furniture my husband and I purchased shortly after we were married and the club chair we got before our second daughter was born so they always bring good memories with them.
