When you create work that resonates with you, it will also resonate with others. Now you need to find your audience. It's important to share your story/narrative.
Are there places or groups that you connect with? There may be an opportunity to exhibit with them as well. If you are interested in specific galleries or markets, check their information online as they may have specific calls for artists. If there is a cafe, restaurant, health care facility, etc that appeals to you, approach them to discuss an opportunity for a partnership. Or set up an online shop. When you keep researching and keep your eyes & ears open, you will notice many opportunities. Once you have work ready it can be surprising at how often opportunities begin to present themselves. What works well for someone else may or may not be the right thing for you. Over time I have learned to trust & follow my own instincts. Just be aware of scams that target artists...both for exhibition & publication. There should not be huge fees attached. FINDING OPPORTUNITIES: Online search using use 6-8 keywords (“+” in between the words with no spaces) & CAREFULLY FOLLOW THEIR DIRECTIONS (incorporate their words). EDIT, EDIT, EDIT! YOUR NARRATIVE: 1. What is your story? A personal narrative is a story you choose to share with viewers/interviewers as it communicates your understanding of yourself, others and/or society. 2. To start writing, answer questions and then decide what you want to include in your final statement. 3. Why did you choose your subject? Medium? Substrate? Colour palette? 4. Are you inspired by religion, myth, legend, literature, society, place, person/people, history (personal or otherwise)? 5. What inspires you? Why do you choose this particular subject and/or medium? Why do want to re-visit the same subject over and over? 6. Does it give you joy or a place to reflect? Is it filled with memory? Are there any quotes that inspire you? 7. What challenges or confuses you? What new ideas have shifted your work in a new direction? 8. Ask family/friends/collectors what drew them to your work. Talk with each other about your work in your mid-month sessions as it can help clarify your responses. The story you write reflects a visual narrative of the images you create and is an additional way for a viewer to connect to you through your work. It’s about communicating why this work is important to you in order to create a personal connection with the viewer. It’s all about telling your story. WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE:
