Minimal Supplies

I've been asked what I'm using whenever I'm sketching out and about so I thought I'd share a few things that work well for me.

• a very small palette...I'm currently using an Altoids smalls tin with 3 primary colours (Daniel Smith quinacridone rose red, hansa yellow light, indanthrone blue) and have also used the Joan of Art primaries which I absolutely love (permanent rose, yellow, cerulean)
•  a small waterbrush (watercolour brush with a re-fillable water handle)...so far I've used one by Pentel, another by Derwent and a third (no brand label) and I really enjoy not having to bring a separate water dish
• a Faber-Castell red pencil crayon (cut in 1/2 to reduce the bulk) & small metal sharpener...I like not being able to erase my lines as the marks are interesting & I don't have to bring an erasor though I did pick up a pencil extender once it became quite short but it wasn't really necessary
• a Preppy .03 fountain pen with red ink has a nice fine point to outline & add any details to my sketch after the paint is dry
• a small watercolour or mixed media sketchbook...so far I've used a 3.5x5.5 inch one by Pentalic, a 4.5x6 from Hahnemuhle and a 5.5x5.5 square from handbook journal co. and I've liked them all
• I tuck a napkin into the sketchbook & place the supplies into a pencil case by Moleskine that attaches to the sketchbook with an elastic & it all fits into my waist/shoulder pack along with my wallet, keys & sunglasses

It's all small and accessible, which is what I need to keep me motivated. I've always wanted art to be fun so this has been a perfect addition to my daily life.
